Don’t get me wrong, I love a good bargain. I always wait for sales and Black Friday deals when I want to buy stuff.
But, there are things that I never buy on sale or ask for discounts. Especially when it comes to buying services, I don’t ask for discounts.
Most people are hard-wired to ask for discounts, like when they’re at a car service station or even hiring a gardener or a housekeeper.
Oftentimes, these professionals will agree to work for a discounted price. But do you think they would give their 100% when working at a discounted price? When they know they could be earning more at someplace else?
Think about it, would you ask for a discount from your doctor? Of course not! Because quality matters! You know your health is at risk so you want to get the best possible care you can no matter how much it costs.
This is something I wish freelance clients would understand. Whenever a client asks for a discount, you will give them a lower rate. But deep down, you know you’re worth more so you end up delivering work that barely meets the minimum requirements.
I wish clients would realize how validated freelancers feel when they agree to the asking price. And how hard they’re willing to work to prove their worth.
And, I know in the beginning freelancers have to do work at lower rates, but once you build enough reputation, you no longer have to agree to discounted rates. Find your ideal rate and stick to it.
The clients who know the value of your skills, experience, and quality of work will respect your price!
See you next time!
